We have learned that each client is at a different point in his or her life, and has unique planning needs.  Therefore, when we meet with our clients we listen carefully to their specific situations.  Based on that exchange, we are then able to help them ascertain their needs and desires and identify goals.  We often utilize a team approach to take advantage of the client’s other professional advisors, such as the client’s accountant, financial advisor and insurance professionals.  We then explain possible options and propose appropriate actions and documents to implement those goals into a customized estate plan.

Our attorneys offer a breadth of estate planning, probate and elder law experience and planning capabilities to assist clients in realizing their estate goals, whether simple or complex.  Our approach is to provide creative solutions to help the client recognize and deal with the multitude of issues they may face, rather than narrowly focusing on the preparation of a will or trust.  For example, some clients may discover that they can increase their income while benefiting charity.  Other clients will learn that it is not necessary to omit a disabled child from their wills.  Small business clients will learn alternate ways to pass their business to their children at a reduced tax cost.

We have developed written materials to help guide clients through the complexities of estate planning and protecting life savings from the costs of nursing home care, both for individuals and for married couples.

Some of the issues we assist our clients with include:

Putting a plan is in place to handle their own needs should the client become incapable by preparing powers of attorney, health care directives, living wills and trusts.

Assisting with the difficulties and expense of long term care by helping our clients retain as much of their wealth as allowable in the circumstances and helping them apply for Medicaid assistance where appropriate. 

Establishing special needs trusts to administer assets for the benefit of loved ones who suffer from disabilities, while still allowing them to retain the benefits they rely upon.

Planning for the needs of their families and other beneficiaries after the client's death by creating appropriate Wills, trusts and other documents to reduce or eliminate estate taxes, avoid or simplify probate, provide a means for administering assets in a manner that will best help their families, including trusts for beneficiaries who are young or otherwise ill-equipped to handle their own assets, smooth the transfer of business interests, and to attain their charitable goals.
