James L. Young, Jr.
Practice Areas:
Jim's practice includes small business concerns, estate planning,
wills and trusts, commercial finance, and real estate. Jim joined
the firm in 1991.
Education: Jim
is a native of Shelton, Connecticut, a 1975 graduate of Southern Connecticut
State University and a 1981 graduate of the Lewis and Clark Law School
in Portland, Oregon.
Experience and Law Related Activities:
Jim began his legal career in 1981 as Assistant General Counsel
to the Oregon Bank, where he appeared in state and bankruptcy courts
upon a wide diversity of collection and commercial finance related
matters, including Chapter 11 cases. After two years in the legal
department, Jim took a position in the Trust Department of the Oregon
Bank, where he was a personal trust officer for two years and where
he was responsible for administration of personal trusts and settlement
of estates. He then took a position with the legal department of First
Interstate Bank of Oregon, N.A., as counsel to the commercial and
corporate lending department and documented substantial and varied
loan facilities, including asset based and unsecured facilities, ESOP
loans, participations, syndications, and letters of credit. Together
with other bank officers, Jim authored a course book and taught graded
classes at First Interstate Bank, as a training vehicle for the bank's
commercial lenders.
Since returning to his native of State of Connecticut in 1987, Jim
has been entrusted by many institutions and businesses to represent
their interests in business dealings, complex credit arrangements
and financings and real estate transactions, and in achieving desirable
resolutions
to
troubled credits and business disputes. He also works with
clients to achieve their estate planning goals.
Jim is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning, Elder Law, Business
Law, Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Sections, of the Connecticut Bar
Association.
Community Involvement: Jim
resides in Mystic, and is a past member of the Zoning Board of Appeals
of the Town of Groton (1995 - 2000), is past Chairman of the Economic
Development Commission of the Town of Groton, is past Chairman
of the Board
of Directors of the Southeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce,
Inc., and is a member of the Board of Directors of United Cerebral
Palsy of Eastern Connecticut. |
